Queens of the Desert at Sonata

July 2023

To Bee Productions are bringing a unique and spectacular Queens of the Desert, a Queer Cabaret in collaboration with Sonata Piano & Cabaret Lounge to celebrate Manchester's rich and vibrant LGBTQA+ culture alongside Manchester Pride through poetry, song and unique stories told by exciting, diverse and authentic artists.

The evening will consist of stories and interwoven songs as well as poetry performed by LGBTQA+ artists to compliment Manchester Pride celebrations. The night will feature emerging, established and breakthrough artists creating a memorable evening of cabaret, full of passion, laughter and important topics.

The event is a showcase of the Cabaret Artist Development Scheme curated by To Bee Productions in collaboration with Sonata Piano & Cabaret Lounge where performers have worked with industry leading and North West based creatives to devise a short cabaret set. We aim to create a platform and network for early-career artists, offering accessible training in order to break barriers to the performing arts; particularly for those who are underrepresented and feel excluded from mainstream paths into the arts.

Artists will participate in masterclasses in Creative Writing and Acting Through Song, which are open to to the public to attend regardless of experience and background. So if you want to learn or develop your skills within storytelling through song please come along.

"The experience was one I’ll never forget! It brought up my confidence up so much that I’d lost over the years. Within four weeks I felt so comfortable, it truly was a night I’ll always remember" - Previous Cabaret Artist Development Scheme Participant

Queens of the Desert, a Queer Cabaret, will be hosted by Jas Nisic, a critically acclaimed cabaret artist and founder of To Bee Productions who are a Queer-led production company who tell stories through the art of cabaret. Reviews from previous cabarets

☆☆☆☆ "perfectly suits the jazz rhythms as she jumps easily from soft dulcet tones to a powerhouse belt, and she even adds a bit of scatting in for good measure. Like honey, her smooth sound doesn’t need too much vocal gymnastics to sound incredible" - We Need To Talk, North West End

"The songs are powerfully sung. All in all though it’s a very enjoyable evening with only a couple of slightly rough edges that rather fitted" - We Need To Talk, Canal St Media

☆☆☆☆ "a lovely way to fill just an hour of your time, in a delightful setting with some wonderful music and a bit of a laugh" - Arisha's OK Cabaret, North West End
