Pat Karney blasts Gay Village

Pat Karney blasts Gay Village

Following the recent article featuring Pat Karney in the Manchester Evening News,we gave you the opportunity to air your views.A great number of you did and here is a small selection..

Andrew ‏says..

"I think 5 years is well off - it's already happened. Very few places in the Village are worth going for".

Paul G says..

"Disappointing. However kinda feel this is not isolated to Canal ST. Anyone heard of "Printworks"? ;-) I hope we can pull thru".

Pete R  SAYS..

"Overdue. Credit to the bars that offer something different, but too many bargain boozers have made the street like Printworks".

Michael P SAYS..

"no desire to visit anymore. Wont be chucking £1000 away for Pride either".

Mandi ‏says..

"I can't remember the last time I went to the village. And I worked the doors there for years. Full of idiots"..

Nicola A says..

"I agree. Lack of decent places in the village. Much prefer northern quarter"..

funky crop shop Says..

"Every day I hear from my customers why they don't come here any more and the biggest reasons are not in this article"..

Manchester Stingers ‏say..

"It does seen to attract a younger crowd full of binge drinkers but maybe that's us getting older!! #Printworks is 10x worse"...

Steph Kay owner of Vanilla says..
"Business at Vanilla continues to prosper, we have an expanding clientele base, who visit us from all over the UK, who adore our venue and The Village experience"..

Robert W says..

"The problem is cheap drinks, they will always attract the wrong crowd! owners just see £ rather than regular loyal customers"..

Laura ‏says..

"I love the Village, feel safe and comfortable there and would not go out anywhere else in the City Centre"..

I'm Pierre says

"The article singles the village out. Drugs! erm.. Picc Gardens should be the council's key target for that for a start"...

"In the recent article in the MEN, I think Pat Karney's comments did not reflect the realities of the Village accurately, because from my experience of leaving the Village late on a Saturday night it is further into town that I have witnessed scenes of drunkeness and disorder. There are some extremely pleasant bars where one can easily relax and conduct orderly business or just relax with friends: Taurus, The Lodge, Icon Bar, Richmond Tea Room and Molly House, to mention a few. I do not believe such hard working venues should be penalised for the sake of a few miscreants".

Trevor Burchick MBE

Susan Mc

"Coun Pat Karney's rather insidious threat to "give the Village 5 years" is, I suppose, archetypal, patronising Old Labour. Licensed premises have increased significantly in Manchester on his watch..so to criticise their use is hypocrisy worthy of Tony Blair! The real issue here is nationwide and embedded in our culture; and as a woman, I certainly feel more uncomfortable about drunken rowdyness in Deansgate or around the Printworks - so why use the Village as an exemplar of all that's bad? This is the man who obsesses about smoking (funded with our money of course) and represents Harpurhey - but when was the last time he enjoyed a quiet night in a bistro or tapas bar in Collyhurst"..
