The ‘Pride in Your Uniformed Services’ event will see Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service, The Royal Air Force and The Army come together for a recruitment drive for applicants from the LGBTQ+ community.
The recruitment events take place at Sackville Gardens in Manchester’s Gay Village on 17th May 2023 from 12noon to 8pm to coincide with the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
Services will have staff and equipment on hand so that you can try out a variety of unfirmed roles and find out more about career opportunities on offer. Each service has a wide variety of roles available.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service talent and attraction lead Jayne Jeffrey said: “I’ve been with the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service now for over 20 years, when I get asked what I do for a living I feel extremely proud to say I am a firefighter and work in an emergency service.
“A career in uniformed services is incredibly rewarding and we always want to see more and more people apply to join us from all parts of our wonderfully diverse communities.”
Dr Carl Austin-Behan OBE DL, (Former Mr Gay UK and Former Lord Mayor of Manchester) currently Greater Manchester LGBTQ+ Community Ambassador with LGBT Foundation said: As someone who has proudly served in both The Royal Air Force and Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service I wanted to bring together all organisations who fall under the “uniformed services umbrella” to highlight and showcase that all members within the LGBTQ+ Community could consider a career within the armed forces or our blue light organisations. Doing this event in the heart of Manchester’s Gay Village on the day of IDAHOBIT is an opportunity for everyone to come along and see if there were career opportunities that would interest them.
