The Stranglers
So a wet Thursday night in Liverpool and at the o2 Academy The Stranglers are performing. Established in the the Mid 1970s even with the various band member changes you should be in for a 'punk' rock treat.
The O2 was pretty full and the stage had two drum sets on it... The roadies did a cursory sound check and then the band arrived on stage, with a big hello Liverpool.
The sound was excellent and the professionalism of the band shone out track after track sounding exactly like the recordings fans have been playing for years.
The first part of the set was mostly the later album tracks and less heard hits. The second set featured original drummer Jet Black (who must be 70+) and contained a body of well know tracks including Golden Brown.
With such a repertoire it must be difficult to choose what to play but the play-list did include (Get A) Grip (On Yourself), Peaches, Hanging Around, No More Heroes, Something Better Change, Nice 'n' Sleazy.
The Stranglers are Not 'Standing Still' and nothing 'Needs to change' and the show is highly enjoyable.
The Stranglers are on tour in the UK until the end of March 2012 and are at the O2 in Manchester on the 30th.
