We reviewed Hello Oriental

Hello Oriental opened back in early 2022, taking up its underground site in the recent Circle Square development.  Taking inspiration from similar developments in both London and Miami, it offers something for everyone. Fancy cooking at home? Head to their in-house supermarket. Takeaway or delivery? Absolutely – order online, or grab to go (check out the bakery!). Cocktails with friends? No problem. Eat in? Do as we did and enjoy the veritable feast of flavours on the menu.

We headed down to the lowest floor, where seating is informal – with both smaller and more communal table options. We picked the latter, and ordered from the menu using the QR code on the table. On the ground floor, you are surrounded by the kitchen and bar, so be prepared for the scents to tease your senses before you’ve even made a selection!

The menu, as you’d expect is Asian in theme, with everything from dim sum and bao, to pho and sushi. We particularly enjoyed the dim sum – dumplings are made in house daily and you can taste the love that goes into every little pocket. They’re both colourful and delicious. Noodles are varied – from the delicate strands of vermicelli (Singapore style vegetable is as tasty as a side as it is main dish), through to the thicker egg noodles and flat rice noodles in pho.

Drinks wise, there are plenty of boozy options – beer, wine, cocktails or spirits on offer, including the essential soju. But if you want something soft, you don’t just have to lean into lemonade or cola. We heartily recommend the bubble tea – enjoyed alongside your meal, or as an alternative to dessert. That said, don’t skip dessert if you can manage it, the Taiyaki soft serve cones are a must!

It’s no surprise that it’s a popular place – and given its location with students especially -  so much so it has even had a write up in the Sunday Times. And if you’re Canal St Card holder you can enjoy a 10% discount at all times.
