The English Lounge
Great menu, with good, full homecooked meals and more snacky stuff like paninis. Between us we had sunday roasts (huge portions, lovely fresh veg), paninis, home made burgers (very good), fish (again, huge) and chips and a fab chicken breast stuffed with halloumi and sundried tomatoes, wrapped with parma ham. All delicious, all plates emptied. Service was brisk, efficient and friendly. The venue also boasts the use of locally sourced ingredients only.
The decor was beautiful up and downstairs with more than a touch of camp. There was a good, busy atmosphere and the toilets were spotless.
There was also seating for those wanting to just drink, with an adjacent room with some big sofas. There is also a little balcony with seating for smokers.
On the way out we noticed a board with some weekday offers which looked really good value, too.Perhaps another post shopping day visit had occured to us.'.
On the edge of the Northern Quarter, the English Lounge is as the name suggests the most 'English' of venues with leather sofas, bookshelves, prints on the walls and lots of dark wood setting the tone.
The bar serves a wide variety of traditional cask ales and offers an extensive wine menu from all over the world. They pride themselves on customer service and offer table service, whether you are dining or just drinking, not something you find everywhere..
The English Lounge is also ideally placed for visits to The Manchester Arena around the corner and is easy to access both Bus and tram travel with stops for both, very close by.
Great too for Cinema, with The Odean Printworks within walking distance and great for an early tea on your way to The Birdcage or Tiger Tiger again just 5 mins away.
The English Lounge also offers 20% off the food bill with a valid @canalstcard
