Welcome The Vegan Queens

Welcome The Vegan Queens

The Vegan Queens are coming!

If you live in Greater Manchester you may have seen a glimpse of them already, on TV, in the streets or even in a local supermarket.  The Vegan Queens are a new and local drag duo made up of Gemini (Paul Burgess from Oldham) and Fraulein39 (Stuart Crowther from Rochdale) two of the founders of Pink Triangle Theatre whose powerful anti-homophobia performances toured schools all over the country for six years.

Focusing on political satire and social commentary for now, The Vegan Queens have donned the outfits and absorbed the persona's, albeit very exaggerated persona's, of Theresa May and Mhairi Black.

"This duo was premièred on a local TV show that Paul used to host and what with the resurgence of the popularity of drag, and us both being actors/singers and writers, we thought Gemini and Fraulein39 deserved a chance to do much more than those two televised hours"  Stuart said.

Paul told us. "We wanted to do more than cabaret, although that will be a big part of what we do, for now we're doing a lot of Youtube videos and developing different characters, such as Rita & Mavis, a brassy and bawdy pair whose videos always take place in a taxi.  Many people locally will know Gemini from the past, she's been a part of my life for well over 25 years now but I hadn't been her for quite a few years, after we did the pre Manchester Pride TV specials it would have been foolish not to continue and thus far, it has been an absolute blast”

The pair are now planning to attend Festival Oldham on May 27th, in another filmed outing for Theresa May and Mhairi Black.

Paul tells us “Theresa has heard that the cones of chips in Oldham are great, and she wants one"

Their philosophy is all about recycling, reusing, making the old beautiful again, and so their costumes and outfits are all bought from charity shops, or donated, and of course as they are vegans, no feathers, no fur, and only cruelty free make up.

You can find The Vegan Queens on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
