VILLAGE VOICES 2011

Do you have the best stories of Canal Street?

Why is Canal Street unique?

What tales can you tell?

Do you want to see your stories brought to life on stage?

The award winning Hope Theatre Company are looking for true stories to bring to life the history and legacy of Manchester's LGBT community.

We need stories from the people who work or play in Manchester’s Gay Village. ‘Village Voices 2011’ will be a unique journey through our hidden history. The play will explore the secret world of Canal Street and Manchester's legendary queer legacy - Vigils and virgins, riots and raids, cruising and crying, pubcrawls and mirrorballs - This is our village. These our our stories. Queer as F**k? – definitely!

Hope Theatre Company and Manchester Pride Patron, Adam Zane are launching 'Village Voices 2011' as a unique 9 month project that will provide a valuable historical archive and also a glittering, musical, celebratory night of theatre.

Hope are back in the heart of the Village after the hugely successful 'Laramie - 10 Years Later' at the Lowry last year. Five years on from the original 'Village Voices', which was a sell-out hit at Taurus as part of Queer Up North, Hope are creating a new updated, rebooted version and want to hear your stories!

Hope is developing the play with acting students from Salford University, who will be out and about, across the Village over the next few weeks gathering your tales of our city….

If you know a story that HAS to be told or a person that we MUST speak to, from Mardi Gras to Sparkle, from secrets and lies to out and proud Manchester Pride - we need you to get involved!

The play will be created over the coming weeks and performed at Salford University in January and will then go back into development as the headline theatre piece of Manchester Pride 2011!
We want this to be your play, your stories and show the world why Manchester is the most vibrant, diverse and fabulous place to be out, proud and queer as f**k!

To get involved or to tell your story, go to Hope Theatre Company's Facebook page, tweet hopetc or email adzane@hotmail.com
