Transgender Manchester

Transgender Manchester is an open entry for Manchester's Pride parade with the simple theme of trans* people just being ourselves, dressed down to how we feel comfortable in day to day life.

We choose to do this because trans* people are routinely denied the same rights as cisgender people and we need social recognition and inclusion and this group marches to be noticed, not to entertain.

We are made up of people with a wide variety of gender identities and this is the fifth year we've taken part after four very successful entries.

In general people think of the Pride parade as loud and colourful with co-ordinated costumes, props and routines but Pride is also about making an important statement and this group is about doing that.

If this appeals to you and you want to make sure you're represented at Pride this year then you'd be very welcome to join us! We welcome anybody who identifies as trans* in some way.

The parade is on Saturday, 24 August 2013 and we will meet at the Roman Fort on Liverpool road with the other walking entries at 11am.

NOTE: May I remind people not to invite their friends to this event unless you know they're comfortable with it as this is a public event and there is a risk of outing people who do not wish to be. PLEASE do share the event though!

Any questions can be sent to me on here or to alexgreenwood@gmail.com

We've done it for the last four years and it's a simple entry that intends to make trans* people feel empowered and improve our visibility.

Our goal is more about politics than it is about entertainment and is to remind people that trans* people are human beings and deserve recognition and inclusion in wider society where we are routinely denied basic rights and are still fighting against transphobic attitudes in the media.
