International Women’s Day 2012

A host of free activities will be on offer at Manchester's International Women's Day event this Sunday.
The Town Hall will be split into three zones with activities relating to the themes, Recognise, Represent, and Resolve.
In the Recognise zone, there will be the opportunity to recognise skills and learn new ones.
Un-Convention Factory will take over the Great Hall and will offer the opportunity to create, produce and release an album in a day.
There will be workshops and talks from women in the music industry including Liz Kershaw, BBC Radio 6, Jo Good BBC6 music, as well as Viv Albertine from the Slits to name but a few.
Sound Women will hold workshops which will give hands-on experience of interviewing, recording, vox popping and will also look beyond the presenting role to the range of skills that fit into the radio industry, from being in front of the microphone to organising the team behind it.
As well as this there will be the chance to listen to high profile women from a range of industries talk about their jobs and the chance to find out about getting into education, employment or training with information and advice on apprenticeships and business start up support.
School children from Whalley Range High School and the Manchester Coperative Academy will be showcasing their work on their timeline project of women’s history which includes famous women as well as personal stories from women in their families.
