The Get Go

The Get Go

THE GET GO (THE GG) is a new network for queer/BiPoC women based in the heart of the legendary Gay Village, Manchester (UK).

THE GG (@thegetgomcr) is a new concept network created by Jasmine Peen, Assistant Manager of LEVEN (@live.leven), and Olivia Mayumi Moss, event manager/consultant and Project Manager of FUTURE FEMALE PROJECT (@futurefemaleproj), with its hub based at LEVEN (40 Chorlton St, Manchester, M1 3HW).

Given the rapid disappearance of fixed spaces in Manchester which are safe for queer women, non-binary and trans persons, this new network is well-needed in the city’s Gay Village. It’s time for the people of Manchester to urgently fight against this forced invisibility and pull together to create more and more available safe bars, cafes, meet-up spaces, and events for this incredibly diverse, creative and business-minded community. This requires the support of local businesses and organisations of ALL kinds.

It’s time for Manchester’s Gay Village to evolve.

The title THE GET GO was chosen to reflect the urgency to make a positive change. It suggests preparing to make a fresh start, switch gear and take action, which could include getting ready to party in a new space.

Jasmine says

"The Gay Village is a district born out of the need for community and a place for change-makers (as well as somewhere to have a good dance and a drink!). With THE GET GO, I would love to uphold its history and create a space where queer women can enjoy themselves in like-minded company, form friendships and thrive".

Olivia tells us

"I'm excited to co-create something new and much-needed for Manchester. It's time for the Gay Village to step up and evolve. By providing a safe space for queer women, non-binary and trans persons to gather, we are hoping for THE GET GO to enhance these communitites which have so much to offer not only to the queer world, but also to this fantastic global city of ours".

THE GG is looking for sponsorships and support from local businesses, and we are delighted to announce that already VANILLA (@vanillagirlsmcr), RED LIGHT (@redlightmcr, voted “One To Watch” at the national Top 50 Cocktail Bars Awards this year), and BEESWING (@thebeeswingmcr) have all hopped on board to offer support.
