Stonewall Conference returns

Stonewall’s Workplace Conference returns to Manchester on Friday 14 June

The success of last year’s first ever Stonewall Workplace Conference in Manchester means they’re back for the second year running. The event is an excellent way to help people in and around the North to make connections, network, feel involved, and feel developed. This is an important best practice sharing event for diversity professionals, allies, role models and senior champions so why not check it out.

There are also some truly inspiration keynote speakers including Paul Flowers, Chair of The Co-operative Banking Group and Deputy Chair of The Co-operative Group and Steph Morgan, Assistant Chief Constable of Leicestershire Police and national ACPO lead for LGBT.
Learning outcomes of the CPD certified conference include skills, knowledge and tools needed to understand the benefits of promoting diverse and inclusive environments.
The one day conference, kindly supported by Barclays, features an outstanding line-up of inspirational keynote speakers, topical breakout sessions and networking opportunities with over 150 individuals from various professional backgrounds.
And they’ve got a bigger choice of breakout sessions this year including:

• Religion and sexual orientation in the workplace – Identify what the potential issues are and receive practical guidance on developing and communicating strategies to prevent incidents.
• Public sector duty – Receive practical tips on how to identify, set and meet LGB-specific equality objectives.
• Monitoring – Receive guidance on how to capture and report on workplace and customer sexual orientation data.
• Role models spotlight: The inside story – Join them for inspirational interviews with lesbian, gay or bisexual role models from different sectors.
• Basic steps to creating a LGB friendly workplace – Understand the basics and receive useful materials to get your organisation started.
• WEI: Learning from top employers – Explore leading edge initiatives being implemented by Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers.
• Network groups – Explore ways to keep your network group relevant and interesting to all staff.

It promises to be an excellent event and will give you all the tools you need to stay at the forefront of best practice in sexual orientation equality. If you have an interest in diversity and equality you will also find lots of value from attending the event.
Chris Edwards, Client Manager at Stonewall commented, “Following the success of last year’s first ever Stonewall conference in Manchester which brought together 150 people from over 80 different employers, we’re back again for another year! We’re delighted to be holding this ground breaking conference on the 14 of June and helping employers to be at the forefront of best practice in sexual orientation equality. Come and join us to learn, network and be inspired!”

Thomas Anderson, Co-chair of The Co-operative Groups award winning employee LGBT network Respect added, “The Co-operative are delighted be involved with the conference, in our home city of Manchester. As the top employer in the North West for LGB people we look forward to a diverse and inspiring conference and if it is anything like the event in Manchester last year it is sure to be one not to be missed.”
