RIP Mark Cain
Well-known personality in Manchester’s Gay Village has been found dead. Tributes were being paid today to Mark Cain, who died at the weekend.
The hotel and bar owner was highly thought of as an entrepreneur and personality. He was co-owner of Velvet, a long-established restaurant and bar in Canal Street, which is also a boutique hotel. A second restaurant, Velvet Central, was opened off Albert Square, two years ago.
Mr Cain was 52.
Long time assocaite and former colleague Mike Pollard said 'I first met Mark Cain in 1993 when I worked with him at the Athenaeum, the pre-flesh parties were a riot, the ideas that he and and Sunny came up with were out of this world.
It's very sad to hear about another talented personality being taken too soon.
I will miss his wicked sense of humour and witty comments.
My thoughts are with sue, James, Liam and Olivia and the rest of his family and close friends'.
John Parkinson, owner of Churchills said 'Such Terrible news about the death of a close friend Mark Cain. My sincere condolences to Marks family, I have known Mark for over 20 odd years, a really lovely man. It is so sad that he decided to end his life in this way. It asks the question - is it all worth it ?? RIP Mark, you were one of the Good Guys xxxxxx'.
Funeral arrangements will follow soon.
