ARTIST CHRISTIAN TAYLOR TO CREATE BESPOKE DISPLAY AT RADISSON BLU EDWARDIAN MANCHESTER FOR THIS YEAR’S PRIDE FESTIVAL

Manchester, UK - 4 August. Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester is proud to support the LGBT community as the Official Hotel Partner for Manchester Pride for the fourth year in a row, with a unique installation from emerging local artist, Christian Taylor, amongst a host of other events.

Manchester-based artist, Christian Taylor, who hails from the vibrant and creative Northern Quarter, is designing a series of bespoke window displays on the hotel’s Free Trade Hall facade featuring his most iconic work - the Manchester Pride Bee. Encompassing the Rainbow Flag, a symbol of LGBT Pride, social movement and equality; the Manchester Pride Bee is the definitive symbol of a city which encourages and inspires its community to accept, embrace and celebrate life in all its glorious forms. The Manchester Pride Bee will also be interwoven with another of Taylor’s design, a geometric-style heart in black for a truly stunning effect.

The art draws both on themes of Pride and Manchester itself. An iconic symbol, the Manchester bee harks back to the city’s reputation as hard working, particularly in relation to the textile mills from the 1800s. The mills covering the area were often described as ‘hives of activity’, and thus the nickname stuck.

Along with Christian’s eye-catching artwork, the Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester is also celebrating Manchester Pride 2017 over the August Bank Holiday weekend [25th-28th August] with the following:

• Live Gaydio Event: On Saturday 26th August, 12pm-4pm, Chris Holiday and Emma Gosswell will be keeping their listeners up to date on the latest from the parade live from the iconic Free Trade Hall. Supporters are welcome to come and meet the presenters and enjoy lunch or a cocktail from the hotels’ restaurants, Steak and Lobster, and from the sleek contemporary British inspired menu at Opus One bar which overlooks the parade itself.

• The hotel will also be running its #BeeProud @RBEHotels competition. Guests will be encouraged to take a selfie from anywhere within the hotel and share their pride moments using #BeeProud @RBEHotels* for the chance to win a luxury stay for two, with dinner and champagne at Opus One.

• Afternoon Tea: The new #BeeProud Afternoon Tea, available at Opus One Bar and Restaurant inside the hotel, is inspired by Manchester’s history and bee emblem. The menu is infused with northern flavours, featuring bumblebee-striped shortcake, a traditional Manchester tart and an Eccles cake, in addition to warm raisin and plain scones, served with strawberry preserve and Cornish clotted cream, as well as a selection of artisan sandwiches.
