Pen:Chant bids farewell to 2016 with London Poet Laureate Laurie Bolger and 7 piece Manchester groove folk band, Bethlehem Casuals

Critically-acclaimed cabaret night Pen:Chant will play host to another sterling line up of local, national and international comedy, spoken word and music talent at Gullivers on Thu 8th Dec.

This month, Pen:Chant host London Poet Laureate Laurie Bolger. Host of BANG Said the Gun, London's leading stand-up poetry night and multi-award winning poetry radio show Round @ Laurie’s. Laurie has written and facilitated for BBC 1Xtra’s Words First, Tate Modern, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Royal Albert Hall.

Whilst in town Laurie will also be sharing her skills with local artists in a special masterclass. Laurie said, "I am so excited to bring my new collection 'Box Rooms' to Manchester and speak some if it's poems at Pen:Chant. I'm really looking forward to holding a writing workshop beforehand to help celebrate some of the cities unique voices. Can't blooming wait Manchester!."

December's line up will also feature an hour set from rising  7-piece Mancunian groove folk band Bethlehem Casuals. Recently seen supporting Hypnotic Brass Ensemble at Gorilla this beast of a band met at RNCM and have been receiving wild acclaim for their raucous and energetic live sets, drawing influences from funk, latin, klezmer, rock and gypsy into their own unique blend of groove folk.

The special festive edition of Pen:Chant will also feature an open mic, party games and Secret Santa.

Since 2013 Pen:Chant have presented some of the best local, national and international acts including cult-comedian Marcel Lucent, Mobo-Award winning Soweto Kinch, and Spoken Word Youtube sensation Harry Baker. As well as showcasing established acts, Pen:Chant provides a platform for local emerging talent through open mic slots and workshops.
