Oxfam and the Pankhurst Centre
Oxfam and the Pankhurst Centre in Manchester have created a new art exhibition which looks at the impact government spending cuts have had on women over the last 12 months.
'Bags of Attitude', giving women a voice and highlighting issues in a way the public can engage with.
Local award-winning artist Charlotte Newson and musician Claire Mooney ran a series of workshops where over 50 women took part, creating their own individual ‘handbags’, each containing different objects reflecting their daily lives.
The handbags are accompanied by audio recordings of women’s stories, which make compelling – as well as harrowing – listening.
Visitors to the exhibition are invited to break the taboo of opening the women’s handbags, whilst wearing headphones to listen to their stories.
The exhibition is open daily from 10am - 5pm until the end of February visit the website...
