Oldham Pride 2015

Oldham Pride 2015

Oldham Pride 2015 takes place on Saturday 25th of July. This is Oldham's 11th annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans pride and our theme this year is 'Generations of Pride'. This is in light of how far the LGBT+ community has come in recent decades, from how being gay was illegal and punishable by jail, or even death, to present day where we can hold LGBT Pride events in open public view. We should be proud to be able to express our beliefs, who we are and who we love.

We should also look to the future with hope. “Generations” is a big part of our theme this year as we are actively seeking all age ranges of the LGBT+ Community to attend this years and future pride events. In light of this we would like to invite and involve as much of the Oldham community as possible. Oldham Pride is a free to the public event.

The event begins with the Rainbow Parade starting in Oldham town centre (next to the Britain in Bloom display), winding down to the Gallery Oldham gardens (Oldham Cultural Quarter, Greaves St, Oldham OL1 1AL). Organisations from across the borough and beyond will be taking part, bringing a rainbow of colours to the streets of the town centre. Prior to the parade, at 11:45am, short speeches will be made by Oldham Council, Greater Manchester Police and Oldham LGBT Consortium representatives voicing their support.

The parade assembles at 12noon and then walks down through Oldham to the gallery gardens where information and advice stalls, arts, crafts and activities for all ages await. As always the day will be beating along to the sound of our supporting artists, both local and far reaching.

This year we’ve made the event even bigger by hosting Oldham’s Official Pride Party in the George Square (OL1 1LB) as a licensed area, continuing on with a live stage and even more live performances up till 11:30pm.

Our live acts this year are as follows: Misty Chance, Danny Beard, PJ Robinson, Icon Tribe acts of Lady Gaga and Jane McDonald, Daniel Winters, Jenifer Ball, Sam Leneghan, Katie Jay, Emma Balmford, Thomas Gordon, Angel Delight, Gizelle, Gay Gordons, Emmy Lou and Oldham College Performing Arts students.

We would like to thank one of our sponsors, The George Tavern for their huge support and contributions they have made to the Oldham LGBT Consortium.

Oldham Council have been huge supporters in Oldham Pride from day one and have helped make pride what it is today.
