OLDHAM PRIDE 2013: ONE WORLD, ONE HEART, ONE PRIDE

Oldham LGBT Events Group is urging everyone to get out the love hearts and confetti to celebrate Oldham Pride 2013.

As marriage equality has just passed its final hurdle in Parliament and received Royal Assent, the bells will chime to celebrate “One World, One Heart, One Pride’’ at Oldham Pride and it promises to be an activity packed, fun-filled event.

It takes place on Saturday, July 27

Following speeches from Civic leaders, there will be a spectacular “One World, One Heart, One Pride’’ parade from Oldham Town Centre (assemble 11.45am) to Gallery Oldham.

Here the main event, hosted by Rosie Lugosi and Claire Mooney will take place from 12.30pm till 4pm.

X-Factor star, Kitty Brucknell and Britain’s Got Talent’s fabulous Showbears, will be performing on the day and Oldham Pride favourites including Cavali Jay, Mason, Charlie B, Pink Triangle Theatre and the Gay Gordons will be back.

And new to Oldham Pride are Electric Red, Tracy Gee, Bryan Mottram and OMT Showman.

There will be fun circus skills, sporting and craft activities for all the family and a wide range of LGBT and other advice and information stalls.

With this year’s theme:

• One World – thinking about how LGBT people’s experiences and rights differ around the world;
• One Heart - thinking about love, civil partnerships and marriage (particularly topical and timely this year); and
• One Pride - celebrating involving everyone in showing support for ‘One Pride’.

Oldham Pride provides an important opportunity for us all to celebrate how far we have come in improving lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans rights in Britain and in other parts of the world but also to remember how far we still have to go in ensuring homophobia, transphobia and biphobia are not tolerated, not only here in Oldham, but across the world.
