The State Of The City for older LGBT people

There are at least 7,650 older lesbian, gay and bisexual people (LGB) living in Manchester today. Many of them have grown up in a world hostile to their identities and may have experienced significant discrimination and prejudice because of who they love. Sadly, half of all LGB people over 55 felt that their sexual orientation has or will have a negative impact on getting older.

Last week we launched a new report on The State of the City for Manchester’s Older LGB Communities - www.lgbt.foundation/olderpeople - which clearly articulates the needs of older LGB people in Manchester, and seeks to make an important contribution to the work on ageing that the City Council has embarked upon.

Age and sexual orientation are rarely discussed together, due perhaps to a mistaken assumption that older people do not have a sexuality.
