Nomination for MLGC Anne

Nomination for MLGC Anne

The incomparable Anne Power is up for two Guardian-Observer Ethical awards: 'Local Hero' and 'Campaigner of the Year'.

Anne's an 82-year old retired teacher, former councillor and Green Party activist. For the past few months it's been difficult to find a photo of an anti-fracking protest that doesn't have her in it, and her campaigning has been fuelled by witnessing the violence used by police against protesters.

Anne also sings soprano in the Manchester Lesbian & Gay Chorus, and a more amiable & well-mannered woman you couldn't hope to meet. A few weeks ago, she humbly mentioned she'd been shortlisted for 'some award' and didn't even tell us that it was the Guardian-Observer Ethical Awards until we pressed her for further details.

Anne's up against well-known celebrities such as Brian May CBE and athlete John Herbert. It would be marvellous if she won.
