Message from Russia

Following the tremendous success of Pride House Manchester recently, one of the group organisers Lou Engelfield caught up with a Russian counterpart Elvina Yuvakaeva.

She was clearly delighted with all the hard work and generosity of LGBT friends from here in Manchester and highlighted several ways in which these valuable funds can make a real difference to LGBT sports enthusiasts in Russia today.

The monies have gone towards the funding of the Russian Open Games, which was an LGBT multi-sports event held between the Olympics & Paralympics. Despite having venues cancel on them in the two days before the event, bomb threats, a smoke bomb attack & general harassment, the Games went ahead.

This enabled the Russian LGBT Sports Federation to highlight the discrimination of LGBT people in Russia during a period in which global attention was on Russia as well as providing an environment in which Russian LGBT people could participate in the sports they love.

All this we take for granted in the UK..

Lou Engelfield of the Steering group, is pictured here presenting a cheque for £400 to Elvina Yuvakaeva Co President of the Russina LGBTsports Federation,on behalf of Pride House Manchester.

Thanks to you all and well to done to everyone involved. #trwl Pride House Manchester #canalst
