FIRST LGBT INTER PRIDE SPORTS EVENT TO BE HELD AT SALFORDCITY STADIUM

Rugby League to support LGBT charities and Pride events.

Salford City Stadium is set to become the venue for what could be the worlds first inter-pride sporting events, when Manchester Pride takes on Leeds Pride in a game to touch Rugby League for the Pride of Prides Cup 2013.

9 August 2013, sees Salford City Reds take on Leeds Rhinos, in one of the last Super League matches of the season.  As part of this years Manchester Pride Fringe, there will also be a Rugby League match between Manchester and Leeds Prides, to show the great work that has gone on in the last twelve months toward making Rugby League a truly diverse and welcoming sport for our LGBT Community.  This year, there are over forty exciting Fringe events taking place across the city centre, full details at www.manchesterpride.com/whatson/fringe.

In 2011 Sheffield Eagles were awarded the first Pride Cup, for their work towards the Tackle It campaign against Homophobia. Where The Eagles played that game in a  strip publicising the campaign and they also took part in that years Manchester Pride march. In 2012, the Pride Cup was handed over to Leeds Rhinos to be that years holders.

In 2013, it is Salford City Reds turn to be recognised for their work with the LGBT Community.  As they have been instrumental in helping set up MCR Canalsiders as well as promoting Rugby League within the LGBT community.

MCR Canalsiders are delighted to be working with both Manchester and Leeds Prides to create possibly the worlds first inter Pride sporting event.

Gareth Thomas, former Dual Code International Rugby League Player and MCR Canalsiders patron, said of the event  "It is really great to see Manchester and Leeds Prides, working together to help promote sport and the diversity of the Manchester, Leeds, LGBT and Rugby League communities.  I really wish the Pride of Prides Cup 2013 all the very best in this it’s first year."

We are looking at getting as many people, friends, family and colleagues as possible at the match, which is being held at Salford Stadium from 6pm.  There will be the opportunity to see both Pride teams compete with each other, see how Rugby League works.  Chat to some of the Pride players and Volunteers, try your Rugby League skills out yourself and then watch a great Super League game after.

We also have packages for businesses and group sales.
