Cervical screening campaign for lesbian and bisexual women scoops national award
The Lesbian & Gay Foundation’s “Are You Ready for Screen Test?” campaign has been awarded the top accolade at the Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust 2011 Cervical Screening Awards.
The “Are You Ready For Your Screen Test?” campaign was a targeted project aimed at dispelling the myths around lesbian and bisexual women and cervical screening, and raise awareness that lesbian and bisexual women do need regular cervical screening tests.
The campaign used famous films and humour to help get the message across and engaged with women in a number of different ways including; viral videos, posters, radio and print ads, games, outreach and widespread media pick up.
The campaign was delivered in partnership with the University of Salford and funded by the NHS Cervical Screening Programme.
Annie Emery, The Lesbian & Gay Foundation’s Programmes Manager said: “We are absolutely thrilled to get this award and national recognition from Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.“
“Countless lives have been put at risk for years because of the myth that lesbian and bisexual women don’t need cervical screening.”
“The success of Are You Ready For Your Screen Test? highlights the overwhelming need for, and benefit of, targeted campaigns on a wider scale.”
Robert Music, Director of Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust said: “I and the rest of the judges were hugely impressed with this wining application. It was innovative, creative and very well targeted. The results of this project are already proving to be very positive and of course this is a great example of best practice that can be shared with other organisations across England and the rest of the UK.”
