The University of Salford is proud to announce its annual celebration of LGBT History Month. The LGBT Staff Network welcomes colleagues, students and the public to celebrate the achievements of our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.

All events are free. Everyone welcome.

Launch Event – LGBT in Sports Media
Thursday 2nd February, 6.15pm-8.30pm
University of Salford MediaCityUK Campus, Plot B4, MediaCityUK, Salford Quays, M50 2HE

Join leading figures from the world of sport, media and journalism to discuss the representation of LGBT issues in contemporary sports journalism. Panel members will include:

Basket ball star Jon Amaechi (the first NBA player to come out)
Bob Ballard (former BBC commentator and sports reporter)
Sarah Williams (Equality & Diversity Manager for the Rugby Football League)
Claire Harvey (Paralympian sitting volley ball player)
Dave Randles (Sports journalist and University of Salford academic)
Chris Noble MBE (Director, Sheffield Eagles)

Refreshments will be provided.

The event will be preceded by Take Action: Make Schools Safer, a workshop for teachers aimed at helping schools challenge homophobic bullying, support all their young people and promote understanding across communities.

To celebrate LGBT History Month, the LGF will be touring the region to test your knowledge on all things LGBT. From sport & entertainment to politics and history, see how much you know about the achievements and contributions made by leading LGBT figures.

Transgender Equality Training delivered by TREC
Thursday 21st February, 2pm-4pm
Derwent Room, University House, Peel Campus, University of Salford, M5 4WT
TREC’s training sessions have been developed to increase awareness and understanding of the trans diversity strand. Participants are introduced to key topics pertaining to trans people and their identities, communities and lives.
Manchester Lesbian & Gay Chorus
Wednesday 29th February, 7.30pm

Celebrate the close of our LGBT History Month celebrations with a unique performance by the Manchester Lesbian & Gay Chorus.
