“Inspirational and laugh-out-loud…sexy and outrageous”

The Pink Paper (Yesterday, when I was Young - the play)

Ten years ago, audiences at Taurus were introduced to the remarkable true story of Josie Pickering, in Hope Theatre Company’s acclaimed play Village Voices. Josie first visited the Canal Street in the 1960s, when she was a housewife and mother. With her friend Brenda in tow, Josie discovered the Union Pub and her many adventures began. Josie’s story was later turned into a hit one-woman-show - Yesterday, when I was Young which performed at the Edinburgh Fringe before embarking on an International tour.

This month sees the release of her autobiography, also titled Yesterday, when I was Young and Taurus are hosting a special book launch to celebrate this unique woman. Josie will be returning to Canal Street to sign copies of her book and share her fabulous memories of Manchester’s LGBT History.
