Pride in Sport – Leading Light Award
Trevor Burchick MBE has on World Aids Day (1st December 2012) been awarded the Pride in Sport – Leading Light Award. He is the only UK citizen awarded this in 2012.
The Award is sponsored by the European Gay and Lesbian Sports Federation (EGLSF) European sports legacy project that runs the famous EuroGames.
Trevor, an Olympic Torch Bearer, was awarded the MBE for services to communities of Greater Manchester.
Speaking at Unison Red Ribbon Ball two days ago in central Manchester he praised the important work of LGBT voluntary amateur sport groups across Europe. "Volunteers provide safe spaces for socially excluded people and we would be nowhere on the diversity agenda without their commitment" he said.
His drive on homophobia has captivated commitment from the new Police and Crime Commissioner in Greater Manchester (Tony Lloyd). The PCC pledged support to further Trevor’s approach to bring the EuroGames to Manchester, typically attracting 10,000 entrants across multiple sport activities.
Trevor will launch his new Pink Peace Theme into the Greater Manchester bid for EuroGames 2015 as a new global message on Tolerance, Respect, Inclusion and Peace (TRIP to Manchester).
Understanding an improving quality of life for every person is at the centre of this Pink Peace message. Trevor is further known as the founder of PrideSports and PrideGames. This inspires a collection of diversity across the LGBT community, and took him to appearances at Downing Street meeting with at least 2 x PMs.
As Northern Wave Swimming Club Chair in Manchester, Trevor reflects innovation and creativity created into a community of sports carers.
Trevor is now working on the design of The Health Trainers Level 4 vocational qualification with the Institute of Leadership and Management.
He has been awarded Honorary Membership of City & Guilds of London that impacts on over a million qualifications a year to people of all ages, widening understanding and equality across all local communities.
