Justin Campaign

On February 19th, 2010, in observance of the 20th anniversary of the late openly gay Premiership footballer Justin Fashanu’s coming out and Britain’s LGBT History Month, The Justin Campaign launched Football v. Homophobia, a day of tournaments, friendly matches and other events aimed at promoting an inclusive environment on the pitch and having some fun at the same time. Football games and events not only took place all over the country, from Edinburgh to Brighton, but all over the world — partner events were held in eight countries, including the United States, Mexico, Croatia and Spain.

The second-annual Football v. Homophobia day will take place this Saturday, February 19th. And this year, in an effort to ensure the event is working on behalf of as many people as possible, The Justin Campaign is launching two companion initiatives alongside Football v. Homophobia: Football v. Biphobia and Football v. Transphobia. The campaign team recognizes that equality must be fought for with a united front and are taking this opportunity to ask members of the bisexual, transgender and allied communities how to best include the needs and aims of everyone. The campaign website has downloadable logos so fans can help spread the word online, and keep watching the website for more details on events and how to get involved.

I understand this is on a bit of short notice, but we would love to have organizations all over the country get involved in any way possible, especially as we are expanding to include these two new campaigns. We would be happy to help you with anything you may need for your event.

Attached, you'll find this year's logos and images that you can use on your blogs, social media pages, etc. to spread the word and a joint statement from our partners with the FA and Kick It Out, another incredible organization advocating inclusiveness in football. Our FvH 2011 website goes live tomorrow, 3 February, at http://www.footballvhomophobia.co.uk/.

In the meantime, check out the Justin Campaign website for more information about what we do (http://www.thejustincampaign.com/), or find us on Facebook and Twitter (@JustinCampaign). For more information, contact me (lindsayeanet@gmail.com) or the rest of the team at info@thejustincampaign.com, and don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions or concerns.
