Impressive line up for LGBT history debate

Impressive line up for LGBT history debate

How do you begin researching LGBT history in the military when it has been so well hidden?

Join Dr Emma Vickers (senior lecturer at John Moores University) and Dr Jo Stanley (Curator of the Hello Sailor exhibition) to explore how we can research LGBT history during a time when homosexuality was still illegal in the Armed Forces.

Professional historians will speak about their own research within the field, and share tips and advice on how you can begin investigating this concealed LGBT history.

There will be a Q&A discussion with several veterans who identity as LGBT.

This unique event, presented by IWM North and the Schools Out Foundation, takes place on the eve of the annual LGBT History Month Conference, this year in Manchester from February Friday 26 to Sunday 28 February 2016.

Tickets £8 for adults, £5 concessions

Other speakers on the day include:

•Charles Upchurch, Associate Professor of History at Florida State University

•Stephen Whittle OBE, FAcSS, DLaws hc, PhD, MA, LLB, BA, Professor of Equalities Law at Manchester Metropolitan University

•Susan Stryker, Associate Professor of Gender and Women's Studies, and Director of the Institute for LGBT Studies

Thursday 25 February 2016, 11am – 4pm
