GHT new services for over 50s

GHT new services for over 50s

George House Trust, is launching a new service for older people living with HIV - the fastest-growing group of people with the condition in the UK.

Delivered in partnership with Terrence Higgins Trust and funded by the Big Lottery Fund, the Health, Wealth and Happiness project aims to improve the emotional, physical and financial wellbeing of people living with HIV who are aged 50 and over.

Studies have shown that people in this group are more likely to be financially disadvantaged and twice as likely to experience other long-term health problems compared to others their age without HIV. As a result, many have serious concerns about the future.

Following an initial assessment, participants in the project can choose to be paired with a mentor of a similar age, who they can meet for one-to-one support.

They will also be invited to a series of groups and workshops, which will offer guidance in areas such as managing finances, learning new skills such as IT and social media and expanding social networks, and. George House Trust can also offer support around more complex health and wellbeing issues including financial issues, welfare benefits, employment and debt advice.

Stephanie Mallas, Joint Chief Executive at George House Trust, said: "From our conversations with people living with HIV, we know that there is a real need for a service that can provide information and support specifically tailored for over-50s" she continues "George House Trust is excited about the launch of this new service and to be able to offer tailored support to people in this age group."
