Gaydio wins "Best Radio Show" award in national poll

During its first year on air, Gaydio, Britain’s first full-time FM radio station for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people has become an award winning station. In an annual poll conducted amongst the readers of the Pink Paper, Gaydio’s afternoon presenter Nicksy has been awarded the accolade of ‘Best Radio Show'. The station was competing amongst a strong line-up of nominated presenters including Scott Mills, Chris Moyles (BBC Radio 1) and Chris Evans (BBC Radio2).

Toby Whitehouse, Director of Gaydio said "Winning this award, and beating off competition from the big national stations is a great honour. Nicksy is such a big part of Gaydio, and we're really proud that his audience have shown how much they enjoy the show by voting for him. We try really hard to offer a distinctive radio station and hopefully this shows that we're doing something right".

Winning presenter Nicksy added "I am truly shocked at winning, especially up against such talented competition like the legendary Chris Evans! It just goes to show that you don't have to be in London to win a national award".

Gaydio is The UK’s first and only full-time FM radio station for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people. It started broadcasting last summer and has already gained significant popularity. The station broadcasts contemporary pop and dance music alongside engaging speech content during the day, with some specialist programming in the evening and at weekends.

You can listen to Nicksy weekday afternoons from 3 and Sunday nights from 10 on Gaydio, which broadcasts on 88.4fm throughout Manchester, via its iPhone app and online at gaydio.co.uk.
