DV8 bring John to the Lowry

DV8 bring John to the Lowry

John, the latest work from multi-award-winning DV8 Physical Theatre, co-produced with the National Theatre, comes to The Lowry as part of its first European and UK tour.

John opened Liverpool’s Homotopia Festival 2014, the UK’s foremost LGBT art and cultural festival, before opening to both critical acclaim and some controversy at the National Theatre in November 2014.

Lloyd Newson, Artistic Director of DV8 since the company’s inception in 1986, interviewed more than 50 men asking frank questions, initially about love and sex. One of those men was John.

What emerged was a story that is both extraordinary and touching. Years of crime, drug use and struggling to survive lead John on a search in which his life converges with others in an unexpected place, unknown by most. John authentically depicts real-life stories, combining movement and spoken word.

DV8 last visited The Lowry with Can We Talk About This?, Newson’s piece on Islamic fundamentalism. Since its beginnings in 1986, DV8 physical Theatre have created 18 works and won many awards including a Grand Prix de Danse, an international Emmy for Performing Arts, a Rose d’Or, three Prix Italia and a Helpmann Award for Best New Dance Work.
