Doppel Dietrich
Yes, that legend of the twentieth century, Marlene Dietrich, will be returning to Studio Salford at the end of this month for six performances – despite the fact that she never did go there, and died twenty years ago! Now a Northern Quarter resident, Patricia Hartshorne doubles as this star of stage and screen in her one-woman cabaret, DOPPEL DIETRICH.
As GlovesOff Productions, the award-winning solo performer toured widely with her late partner, Michael Elphick, throughout the UK and abroad, and last brought her ‘eerily accurate’ portrayal of Dietrich to the King’s Arms in 2006 and 2008. Patricia continues as GlovesOff Productions – now as a one-woman company, with pianist John Miles providing accompaniment.
Studio Salford, above the King’s Arms on Bloom Street, Salford, is only a five minute walk from Deansgate, and a perfect setting for this close-up cabaret performance. Meet Marlene - from bi-sexual cross-dresser to Hollywood icon … from wartime entertainer to international cabaret artist … from outrageous self-publicist to uncompromising recluse. Get a haunting and humorous look at her life, loves and songs. Are you up for some double strength Dietrich? Meet the woman who broke all the rules, was way ahead of her time and answered to nobody – not even Adolf Hitler!
