Dan Carter urges you to vote

Council Elections take place on the 03/05/2018, Canal Street Online will never tell you who to vote as a writer for this platform I do feel that we have a duty to remind you that voting is one of your most fundamental rights.

Democracy is the cornerstone and the foundation of our society so if you have a polling card you owe it to yourself and the community you are part of to go out and vote. As members of the LGBT community it is voting for Governments that have supported our rights that have seen the overturning of Section 28, equal age of consent and eventually gay marriage in our country.

Whilst Local Elections do not result in a change of Government it does send a clear indication to the Government of the day whether you are happy with the choices that they are making on your behalf. As residents of Manchester and for those of you who will read this outside of Greater Manchester if you are unhappy with how the NHS is being run or if you are unhappy with the spiralling levels of homelessness up and down the country or if you prefer for us to not get involved in wars that have nothing to do with us the Local Elections is the time to make your voice heard.

If you want to find your local polling station so you know where you’re going before you vote you can find that by following the link below.
