Classical Pride 2014
MANCHESTER PRIDE CHAMBER MUSIC
Manchester Pride Chamber Music returns for its seventh season, and still remains the only such classical music series in the world at a Pride event. Manchester Pride continues its mix of music celebrating LGBT composers and performers, involving some of the UK's most experienced musicians alongside some of the city's young, local talent.
Hosted by Chethams School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music, the line-up includes pieces by Manchester-born composer and current Master of the Queen’s Music, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, who celebrates his 80th birthday this year. That’s alongside the rarely heard Trio for horn, violin & piano by the great suffragette composer, Dame Ethel Smyth.
There’s also a recital from the renowned concert pianist Leslie Howard, and baritone Simon Butteriss joins us for a programme which he calls “The Lavender Songbook – How Gay was set to music before the law allowed it”.
