Canal St Review

Canal Street looks forward..

Following the turbulance of the last 12 months or so, we are looking forward to 2012 as a year of improved circumstances for us all. The Gay Village has gone through yet another period of evolution itself. Some good. Some not so good.

Several new independent venues have opened with the prospect of more in 2012 (watch Tonic bar for instance) mass socialising is starting later, with many venues now open until as late as 6am. More and more venues are barring Hen/Stag nights and despite the recent alterations in parking costs, the day trade, remains robust in several venues especially during the Summer months.

On the downside, Homophobia still exists ,in all of its different forms, and must be eradicated where possible. Many bodies exist to deal with this and other matters including GMP. We must support them at all times,if we are all to be safe in our 'space' and across the city.

To read what the Guardian thinks.

So what of 2012? Well no-one has a crystal ball, but we must hope and try for better things in the areas mentioned already. The LGBT community and their friends have always been resourceful and we DON'T expect that to change at all.

There are going to be new people involved in the organisation and delivery of Manchester Pride, with all that is at stake. We must wish them well for next Aug 17th-27th.

For our part. We start the year with 6000 emails for our weekly mailer, 17,500 fans on Facebook, 2500 followers on Twitter and already nearly 3000 downloads on the iphone/Android apps. We are planning new services to enable our many communities to easily flow information, aswell as to benefit accordingly. More news of these in January.

As ever, we welcome your input and if you would like to see new services added, please let us know at info@canal-st.co.uk

Finally, whatever 2012 has in store for us all, lets affirm for better things and we would like to wish you all a Very Happy New Year.

Great thanks also, to our contributors, helpers, supporters and advertisers. We certainly couldn't do it without you all.
