Exclusive interview with Vicken Couligian!

Do you see your new role as evolutionary or revolutionary?
It’s very much evolutionary. Year after year, the event goes from strength to strength and with our 21st birthday fast approaching, it’s important that we build on the success of previous years and improve on things as and when we can.

Do you believe that Pride should always have 'good causes' as its driving force?
Absolutely! Manchester Pride is more than just a fun-filled weekend as the fundraising ethos is the strength behind the festival. Since 2003 Pride has raised £895,000 for charity. All this work is just fantastic and long may it continue.

Do you think that being a solicitor will bring any helpful experience to the role?
Each member of the board brings their own skills and expertise to the table, and if ever required, I’d be on hand to offer legal advice to the festival.

What are the pivotal relationships in the organisation of Pride in Manchester?
Over the years the sponsors, volunteers, patrons, local businesses, the Village Business Association, Manchester City Council and members of the public, have come together to ensure the festival is a success, and we couldn’t do it without them.

How important will the board be to you as a supporting body?
Extremely important - as I mentioned before each member brings their own skills to the table and we all work really well together. I’m pleased to say that along with the Festival Director and Team Pride we have a great support network on hand.

Any specific ideas for Pride 2011 at this early stage?
Last month we had our annual vision day, and as we approach our 21st birthday we plan to make it a Pride to remember. I can’t give away any ideas at this stage, but watch this space.

Good luck to Vicken from all of us at Canal-st.co.uk!
