Bolton Pride nominees announced

With Bolton Pride only six weeks away we are urging the community to vote for their diversity champions. The winners from the public votes shall be announced at the Bolton Pride Diversity Awards at the Bolton Whites Hotel on September 23rd 2016 as part of Bolton’s second LGBT festival.

The Bolton Pride Diversity Awards shall take place in the premier suite of the Bolton Whites Hotel on September 23 rd and it shall be hosted by Tower FM’s Jon Holling with performances from The Birdcage (Manchester), Jordan Gray (The Voice UK) and Ikenna (International Whitney Houston Tribute). During July Bolton Pride asked the public to nominate their diversity champions in five categories. The response was fantastic and Bolton Pride are proud to announce the following nominees:

Charity/Organisation: Bolton LGBT+, BiPhoria, Bolton YMCA, Sparkle – The National Transgender Charity, Bolton Healthwatch and BWFC Community Trust

Youth Diversity Champion: Euan Holmes (LGBT+ Bolton) and Lauren Ingram (Bolton Student Union LGBT Group)

Adult Diversity Champion: Steve Sherry (LGBT+ Bolton), Pierette Squires (BiPhoria and Bolton LGBT partnership), Zoe Kirk Robinson and Petra Fehn (BAND)

Outstanding Contribution to the Community: John McSwiggan (Unison), Diane Rodgers (Deeselecta), Susie Baines (George House Trust) and Joe Whittaker (campaigner for LGBT inclusion and equality)

Business of the Year: The Venue, Serenity Security, Bolton at Home and Octagon Bolton

All of the above nominees have been put forward by the public and now the public get to vote for their winner. You can vote on the Bolton Pride website http://boltonpride.co.uk/vote, the voting closes on August 31 st .

As well as the five awards which shall be voted for by the public, there are two special awards which have been chosen by the Bolton Pride team. The Sir Ian McKellen Award has been won by Christine Riley. Christine has been the landlady of the Star and Garter in Bolton for 19 years where she has provided a safe space for the LGBT community. The Bolton Pride team feel that Christine deserves the special award for Exceptional Contribution to Bolton’s LGBT Community.

The final award is the Darren Batey Award. Darren Batey was the Bolton Pride Volunteers Manager and he was a vital part of last year’s festival. In December 2015 Darren died tragically and the Bolton Pride team decided to name an award in his honour. Darren’s passion for volunteering and charity work was an inspiration to many and this award will be presented to the person that the Bolton Pride team recognise as being committed to volunteering and charity work. The winner of this award shall be announced shortly.

Tickets for the Bolton Pride Diversity Awards are now on sale via the website
