Manchester group Bear Explosion win international Film Award.

Manchester based bear group Bear Explosion have won at the ‘Golden Woofs’ film festival in Adelaide, beating international short film entries from around the world to take home the Australian award.

The group formed in 2010 and has received international attention for their music and comedy based videos with over 30,000 views on YouTube to date. They are known in the UK for their live shows and have performed at events around the UK such as Manchester Pride, Belfast Bear Weekend and Oifest in Birmingham.

The 'Golden Woofs' international bear short film festival is organised by ‘Bear Men of Adelaide’ and took place on Friday 23rd November 2012. Short films from around the world were screened to members of the public in the Mercury Cinema, Adelaide with a panel of judges selecting an overall winner from all the entries.

Bear Explosion’s original composition ‘We Suck’ was judged to be the overall winner, with the judging panel recognising the creativity, originality, cleverness and effort of the short film. They also noted that despite the lower budget in comparison to other entrants, it stood out as a clear winner.

The organiser also praised the short film, noting “...the audience had a really positive response to your clip with lots of applause and I recall one fella who yelled out ‘brilliant!’ at the end".
Ben from Bear Explosion said, “We are thrilled that our short video has won an event hosted on the other side of the world. This video came from our love of music and comedy and it is humbling to know that people around the world are watching and enjoying what we are doing.”

Seamus from the band, who wrote the winning song, added, “To achieve international recognition inspires us to keep going and to provide more films for our fans. We are truly touched to be recognised in this manner.”

Bear Explosion take home the ‘Golden Woof 2012’ award and $500 in prize money.
