An Evening With Julie Burchill at Waterstones
Julie Burchill - 'the Queen of spleen' -is one of Britain's most high profile journalists and authors. Shameless, shocking, witty, clever, hedonistic and never boring - she called her autobiography I Knew I Was Right for a reason.
Landing a job at the NME at the age of seventeen, she went onto to become one of the highest paid journalists in the land. She also gave Iggy Pop laxatives instead of drugs.
Her novel Sugar Rush was adapted into a successful TV show and won her an Emmy. Tim Fountain dramatised her life and career in the play Julie Burchill Is Away in 2002. The play was reprised at this year's Edinburgh Festival.
Julie is perhaps best known as a columnist. Whether writing in The Sun. The Mail or The Guardian, she has been skewering the absurdities of our cultural and political life for decades.
Her latest book, Unchosen, is her most personal yet. It chronicles her first and longest lasting love affair: her love for the Jewish people. But with chapter titles like Off My Face In The Promised Land, you'll be glad to know that this is no ordinary love letter.
We are delighted to welcome her to discuss her latest book and her previous work.
