25th Anniversary for Hot Stuff

25th Anniversary for Hot Stuff

'70s and '80s musical Hot Stuff returns to Oldham Coliseum Theatre for the 25th anniversary of its world premiere.

The devil wears high heels in this fabulous Faustian musical. Wannabe rock star Joe Soap will stop at nothing in his bid for fame and fortune. He strikes a demonic deal with the devil's right-hand woman, drag queen Lucy Fur, and ditches his ballroom dancing sweetheart on the dance floor. Sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll - It's a one way ticket to hell'

A wickedly outrageous ride through the best and worst of the '70s and '80s, Hot Stuff features a host of hits including: Blame it on the Boogie, Nutbush, Le Freak, D.I.S.C.O, Addicted to Love and of course Hot Stuff.

Initially devised as former Coliseum Artistic Director Paul Kerryson's sequel to 1989’s Hold Tight! It's '60s Night, Hot Stuff premiered at Oldham Coliseum Theatre in November 1990 to rave reviews, becoming an instant cult classic that had audiences dancing in the aisles.

'It's not only hot, it cooks and sizzles from start to finish…For lovers of the modern-day musical, Hot Stuff is a must; for lovers of '70s music, it’s essential' -  Slade's Noddy Holder reviewing for CityLife, 22 November 1990.

'At one point it looked as though there might be a mass dance stampede at Oldham Coliseum' - Francesca Turner reviewing for The Guardian, 10 November 1990.

Hot Stuff has since been performed on the West End, on national tours and in numerous revivals in Leicester’s Haymarket Theatre, where Kerryson was Director for 23 years. The show’s return to the Coliseum stage will be directed by current Artistic Director Kevin Shaw, whose directorial credits in musicals at the Coliseum include hits: Chicago, Our Day Out and Dreamers.
