We review Matt Cain's latest book One Love

We review Matt Cain's latest book One Love

February 2024

Matt Cain is an established writer, so you know you are in good hands before you start reading.

His latest novel only builds on the moving and poignant stories that entertain, charm and engage the reader. More than that the characters are delightfully flawed, vulnerable, and believable. The ways humans grapple with love, friendship and sex is laid bare.

The central characters, Danny and Guy, are bruised and healed by the decisions they make. Perhaps we can identify ourselves in this story and the joys and dilemmas that visit us all whatever our sexual identity.

One Love is structured so that a parallel journey in different times builds and reveals the bond between two friends over twenty years. At times the sharp writing made me laugh out loud... sometimes the heartwarming and challenging reflections provoked memories of my own experiences in the same settings.

Finally I found myself clearing tears as the last moving pages came into sight.

It is a book filled with positivity, honesty and hope.

It is a book I wish I had read years ago... at last we have One Love now.
