Beautiful Thing
Beautiful Thing - Beautiful production. At the Royal Exchange last night, was a production to behold.
A very strong cast took us on the journey of adolescent love, against the back drop of East London in the 90's,with all the difficulties of Drugs and domestic violence,et Al.
Despite these hardships, the 5 players managed to make us laugh and occasionally cry, throughout, all with tremendous charm.
The two central characters Jamie and Ste in particular, in the most unlikely of setting, show a genuine, burgeoning love for each other. Sandra and Tony have a fiesty relationship on the other hand, which takes its own route.
Mama Cass obsessed Leah, completes the quintet and has some great lines which only serve to highlight the tremendous writing from Jonathan Harvey. His clever and witty script is the real winner on the night.
In addition, generous musical references, further amused a packed audience thoughout. The appearance of Manchester's very own LGBT chorus rounded of the evening 'Beautifully'.
Skillfully directed by Sarah Francom, the production runs until 3rd December. Do try and see it; if you can get a ticket.
