Manchester is home to the most vibrant and exciting arts scene outside London.  From the intimate space at Canal Street’s Taurus Bar to the large-scale touring houses the Palace Theatre and the Opera House, all tastes are catered for.

Manchester also has two excellent producing theatres – the Library Theatre Company and the Royal Exchange Theatre – where a rich mix of contemporary and classic plays is presented throughout the year. The Lowry hosts visiting companies from across the arts spectrum, regularly attracting the biggest names in dance, opera, theatre, and comedy.

There is a thriving Fringe theatre scene which features new work by some of the region’s most talented young writers and performers, whilst Contact Theatre and The Green Room consistently present innovative work.  The city’s major Fringe Festival – 24:7 – takes place in July and is already a firm favourite on the theatre calendar.
