Manchester's vibrant entertainment scene
Manchester also has two excellent producing, theatre the Library Theatre Company and the Royal Exchange Theatre.
Both venues present a rich mix of contemporary and classic plays throughout the year. The Lowry hosts visiting companies from across the arts spectrum and regularly attract the biggest names in dance, opera, theatre and comedy.
There is also a thriving Fringe theatre scene, featuring new work by some of the region's most talented young writers and performers. The Contact Theatre consistently presents innovative work.
The city's major Fringe Festival, 24:7, takes place in July and is already a firm favourite on the theatre calendar.
